Guest Bio: After leaving school Steve started working for Aqualogic in 1993 as a Storeman. He then changed to Spare Parts Manager before working as a Service Technician. While the majority of his Career with Aqualogic has been in the Sales Department, his time spent in Service gave him an in-depth knowledge with hands on experience of the company’s products and services. He is currently the Sales Manager and spends a lot of his time working with Industry Professionals on ways to improve process which, in turn, benefits their clients.

An Australian owned company, they supply and service commercial, industrial laundry equipment and ancillary products as well as providing various preventive maintenance programs. They supply to various industries including the Government Health System such as Hospitals, Private Hospitals & Aged Care facilities. Also, they supply to the Hospitality Industry and almost every Correctional Facility in New South Wales. Their technicians are factory trained and they hold a large stock of spare parts in multiple states.

Overview:

• The Northern Territory Health Department has confirmed 30 children have been found with elevated blood lead levels in three separate locations across remote areas of the territory. Long-term exposure to lead at levels less than those required to cause acute symptoms can result in weakness in the fingers, wrists and ankles, general fatigue, headaches, anaemia, small increases in blood pressure, and reduced kidney function.

• One of the major problems faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people is the lack of basic eye care. With strong Commonwealth leadership we can make sure that in 10 yearstime, 32,000 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people do not needlessly have poor vision for lack of care and concern.

• Dr Dankovich of Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh created the ‘drinkable book’, with pages that can be used to filter and kill bacteria in contaminated water.

Overview:

• Researchers at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research received over $1 million in research equipment funding, out of a total funding pool of $5.5 million, in this year’s Cancer Institute NSW Research Equipment Grants. The results of the funding round were announced by NSW Health Minister Jillian Skinner.

• A Federal Government funding deal to continue the operation of the Mersey Hospital in Tasmania’s north-west has been officially approved.

• When Amanda Ayliffe was just 34 years old she decided to find out whether she had a future or not. Having lost both her father and uncle to Alzheimer’s disease before the age of 60, she underwent a genetic test to discover whether it could also be her fate. The test came back positive.
