Guest Bio: Michelle Robins has been working as a Credentialled Diabetes Educator since 1993.  She has worked on 40 diabetes-related committees and working parties, produced book chapters, presented at national and international conferences, more than 100 workshops. Michelle is currently employed as the Nurse Practitioner Diabetes at Northern Health and is member of the Deakin University Conjoint Academic staff.  She has produced several clinical guidelines and position statements for the Australian Diabetes Educators Association and she was a key presenter at the first Australian and New Zealand Forum for Injection Technique and Therapy Expert Recommendations (FITTER) held in Sydney this year.

Segment overview: In today’s Health Supplier Segment, we welcome Michelle Robins, Nurse Practitioner and Credentialled Diabetes Educator at Northern Health, and speaker at the ANZ FITTER event held last May. Given also its Diabetes Awareness Week coming up 9-15 July, this is a timely discussion on the significance of correct injection technique. The event was funded by BD and supported by leading independent diabetes organisations including the Australian Diabetes Educators Association (ADEA), National Association of Diabetes Centres (NADC), Western Sydney Diabetes and Perth Diabetes Care. The Australian and New Zealand Forum for Injection Technique & Therapy Expert Recommendations event is the latest in a series of evidence-based seminars to improve the management of diabetes for healthcare professionals and patients globally.

Guest Bio: Matthew has a wealth of experience in leading and growing medtech companies in both the local and international markets. His keen interest in cancer diagnostics has seen him work with a number of multi-national companies specialising in antibodies and reagent detection systems, automated IHC / ICC stainers, tissue processors, pathology capital equipment as well as consumables and oncology pharmaceuticals.

With over 20 years’ experience leading businesses in the biotech and healthcare sectors, including Siemens Medical, Leica Biosystems and Hospira, Matthew played a key role in driving the growth at Vision Biosystems which became one of Australia’s most profitable biotechs and ultimately sold for AUD $800 million.

Segment Overview: In today’s Health Supplier Segment, we are joined by Sienna Cancer Diagnostics CEO Matthew Hoskin here to share information about their company’s focused on the development and commercialisation of novel in vitro diagnostic (IVD) tests. Sienna manufactures IVD products for pathology laboratories to use in their menu of testing services. At Sienna, Matthew’s efforts are focused on company growth and achieving profitability through the delivery of high quality products that address unmet market needs, and delivering them with commercial excellence. His extensive experience in driving revenue and profit whilst ensuring operational excellence in all aspects of the business is invaluable to Sienna in its pursuit of global diagnostics success.

Guest: Dr. Timothy Craig

Guest Bio: Dr. Timothy Craig is a Professor of Medicine and Pediatrics at Penn State University.  He trained in the US Navy after which he started his academic career at the University of Iowa and then transferred to Penn State to start an Allergy and Immunology Program.  He is a Distinguished Educator, Program Director, Section Chief and a Fellow of the AAAAI, ACP, ACAAI and ACOI. Dr Craig is the director of the Alpha-1-Deficiency Center at Penn State University. He is the recipient of multiple teaching awards, has published over 250 manuscripts and has delivered over 350 invited lectures.  Lastly, he is proud to be a Vietnam Education Foundation Scholar.

Guest Bio: Gary Ho, a 46-year-old father from Austin, experienced pain in his ankles and feet for over a decade before being diagnosed with chronic uncontrolled gout. He had his first attack in college, and his doctor told him it was a sprained ankle and prescribed pain pills. The pain continued for several years –getting worse and lasting longer as time went on (feeling like broken bones). In his 40s, Gary was finally diagnosed with chronic gout. He has since found relief from a medicine called KRYSTEXXA approved to treat adults with chronic gout that hasn’t been controlled with other treatments.  He seeks to educate others about the condition and the importance of speaking with a gout specialist to assess your options.

Guest Bio: Clemens Hong MD, MPH is the Director of Whole Person Care and Medical Director of Community Health Improvement at Los Angeles County Department of Health Services.  Dr. Hong leads a number of county initiatives to improve the community and population health for Los Angeles County residents with a focus on high-risk and vulnerable populations, addressing social and behavioral determinants of health, and the role of community health workers onto health delivery teams.

Guest Bio: Dr. Elicia Harris is a board certified OB/GYN physician. She is currently practicing in a high-volume large group practice in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She completed her bachelor of science at Purdue University. She completed medical school and her OB/GYN residency at Indiana University School of Medicine. She is a teaching faculty member for Indiana University School of Medicine and volunteer teaching faculty member for Fort Wayne Family Practice Residency. She is currently a physician partner in her large group private practice. She has a special interest in high-risk obstetric care and contraception counseling.

Guest Bio: James M. Greenblatt, MD, is a pioneer in the field of integrative medicine and one of the founders of Integrative Medicine for Mental Health (IMMH). He currently serves as the chief medical officer and vice president of medical services at Walden Behavioral Care in Waltham, Massachusetts. Dr. Greenblatt is also an assistant clinical professor in the Department of Psychiatry at Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston.

Guest: Dr. Allan Morton

Guest Bio: Dr. Morton is certified in Internal Medicine and Rheumatology, maintains an active private practice in Warren, Michigan, as the senior associate of a single, specialty rheumatology group. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI, and doctorate of osteopathic medicine from the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine, Kirksville, MO. After an internship and residency in internal medicine at Detroit Osteopathic and Bicounty Community Hospitals, he completed a fellowship in Rheumatology at Wayne State University in Detroit.
He is the director of the Michigan Osteoporosis Testing Center, as well as a Clinical Professor of Internal Medicine and Rheumatology at Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Guest Bio: Through his role on the Executive Committee of the SpondyloArthritis Research and Treatment Network (SPARTAN), Dr. Deodhar has been dedicated to spondyloarthritis research, including epidemiology, diagnosis, and treatment strategies. He has been engaged in clinical trials assessing the efficacy of novel therapies in ankylosing spondylitis and psoriatic arthritis. Together with the Department of Dermatology, he has created the Center for Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis Excellence (CEPPA) at OHSU, a multidisciplinary clinic which has provided care for patients with psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis and allowed the collection and analysis of a CEPPA registry.
