Guest Bio: Greg Campbell is the owner of MITS:Health, where he helps medical centres and specialist practices with the management and support of their Information Technology systems. Greg works closely with practice managers, and health professionals to ensure that their technical infrastructure is aligned with their vision for the business, while ensuring continued data security, reliability and adherence to standards and legal requirements such as the RACGP Computer and Information Security Standards (CISS). Prior to starting MITS:Health in 2009, Greg worked for World Vision where he managed technology and communications during large scale humanitarian emergencies brought on by war and natural disasters.

Among the services they provide are web design, virus removal, online consultations and telemedicine, relocation, managed services as well as free IT health checks. They have tailored sets of tools, processes and services specifically for medical practitioners which enables customers to maintain stable, reliable systems while controlling IT expenses.

Guest Bio: Born in Sydney, John moved to England and returned to live in Perth. He started Pelican in 1986. A highlight of the company was appearing and winning the Viewers Award in the 2006 ABC television program ‘The New Inventors’. They offer a wide range of products covering manual handling, pressure care, hoist slings, theatre & post operative care, patient dignity, aids to daily living, restraints, safety items and physiotherapy items.

Overview:
• A new veteran mental health precinct will be located at Adelaide’s Glenside Health Service Campus, as the State Government prepares to close the Daw Park Repatriation Hospital.
• Cycling Australia’s She Rides program aims to promote the social aspects of riding among women, and get them out in groups in the same way so-called MAMILS (middle-aged men in lycra) take to the roads. The campaign was developed after a study found road safety, or the perceived lack of it, was the top impediment to women from getting on their bikes.
• Ten leukaemia patients in Adelaide at the Royal Adelaide Hospital and Flinders Medical Centre between July 2014 and January 2015 an error occurred that had been given half the recommended dose of a chemotherapy drug due to a typographical error, Health Minister Jack Snelling confirmed and apologised to the patients affected by the mistake.

• More works will have to be undertaken on water joints at the new $2 billion Fiona Stanley Hospital (FSH) to avoid the risk of further flooding incidents, the Health Department has revealed.
• The Federal Government has unlocked more than $25 million for dialysis services which will predominantly target Indigenous people living with chronic kidney disease.
• Professor Leon Lack of Flinders University said a shift to eastern time for South Australia would mean less sunlight in the mornings for many locals but more light in the evenings.

• Parents and sports coaches are being warned to be on the lookout for signs of concussion according to Professor Gary Browne from the Westmead Children’s Hospital in Sydney said that “if a child suffered a concussion, they should not return to the playing field.” He also added said that – if a child continued to play after suffering a concussion, it could lead to other problems.
• On July 28, 2015 launch the official Medical Research and Rural Health – Garvan Report 2015. It was published by the Garvan Research Foundation that brings together for the first time the most pertinent evidence-based data to better understand the health issues facing rural and regional population across Australia.
• Ian Vickers set off from the Northern Territory hauling a cart, a satellite phone, dehydrated meals, 115 litres of water, and a GPS pointed to the heart of the Simpson Desert.

• West Australian health support workers are taking industrial action across the state’s public hospitals, claiming the Barnett Government is planning to privatise their jobs.
• South Korea has declared it is effectively out of danger from Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS), more than two months after the first case was reported and began spreading.
• The Member for Northern Tablelands, Adam Marshall, has announced the timeline is between 12 and 18 months but the 18 month timeframe is definitely the maximum time it will take for the upgrade of the Inverell Hospital in northern New South Wales.

• Australian National University researchers found a new molecule called RaxX seen in rice immune system, bacterial leaf blight that it can destroy 80% of crop in some countries if it develops early, and it has similar molecular mechanisms to that of HIV according to Dr. Benjamin Schwessinger.
• The New South Wales Premier Mike Baird and Medical Research Minister Pru Goward were given a tour of the Calvary Mater hospital where the trials for Australia’s first medical cannabis for terminally ill adults were taking place. The trial involves using both vaporised leaf cannabis and a pharmaceutical and the first results are expected next year.
• More should be done to address alcohol advertising in sports in the Northern Territory, and a good place to start would be Darwin’s famous Beer Can Regatta, a leading emergency medicine doctor Dianna Egerton- Warburton says, from the Monash Medical Centre in Victoria.
