He’s joining us here on the program to discuss a few points from his new book, ‘Get Off Your Acid: 7 Steps in 7 Days.’ Let’s talk about how to remove acids from the body. Thanks for joining us today Dr. Gioffre.

Dr. Daryl Gioffre: Thank you so much for having me. It’s a pleasure and honor.

N: Great. An intriguing title to your new book, ‘Get Off Your Acid: 7 Steps in 7 Days.’ First, give us a little bit of background about yourself and then let’s jump right into this book.

G: I’m a Chiropractor by nature. I’ve been a Chiropractor, board-certified in the New York State for the past 18 years and looking back into my health history, I had huge addiction of sugar. Sugar is one of the biggest acids in the body but at the time I didn’t know it, it was kind of my skeleton in the closet. As I started to kind of take care of my patients, I noticed one thing. There’s a small group of people that were healthy, full of energy and then there were the rest of the people that were sick and tired. As I really started to follow and investigate, I uncovered what the difference was and these certain group of people that were healthy were following these alkaline principles. Putting these things in the body that makes the body more energetic and the rest of the group was full of acid. I just starting to corporating these things, started adding things one by one, it was incredible. Within a period of about 4 months, I lost 42 pounds and my energy became incredible and the biggest thing was that my addiction to sugar had vanished.

N: Sugar being one of the most or the most addictive substances on the planet. Is that correct?

G: I would absolutely agree with that. In fact, research shows that it’s about 8x more addictive to your body than cocaine. The problem is that it’s hidden in so many foods.

N: You’d think that some of these foods there are really push this health foods are full of sugar and we don’t know that it’s sugar. How do you address that in your book, ‘Get Off Your Acid: 7 Steps in 7 Days?’

G: It’s interesting. With the sale of sugar, the kind of white sugar you see in the pouch, that has actually gone down over the years. But when you look at the consumption of sugar it has skyrocketed. The average American consumed about 170 lbs of sugar every year. It is not just adult, it’s also kids. The average day kids consume about 32 teaspoons of sugar. It’s a real issue but when you dig down deeper you have to realize why are we craving a sugar? Why is this addiction happening? When I uncovered the truth, what I found out was that it’s the deficiency in minerals, alkaline minerals especially magnesium. So as I started adding things high in minerals like green juices, green smoothies, green raw soups – that was actually would got rid of my cravings because I gave my body what it was truly craving, truly deficient in which was those minerals – those foods that are high in chlorophyll.

N: Did you substitute those minerals or those foods for everything else in your diet? Or just incorporate them and slowly get rid of other things?

G: Yes, the latter. I think one of the best things about the book I think what really is vital to a lot of people is that it’s not based of deprivation, it’s based on moderation. The whole thing about balance, you want this to sustain itself and the worst way to not do that is to remove food. What I started doing was adding and not taking away and what you notice is as you start to add these healthy foods into your diet, eventually the good will soon outweigh the bad. And that’s approach that might take a little bit longer but it definitely will work and will sustain itself.

N: So 7 Steps in 7 Days – what does some of these to remove acids from the body and get some results in as you say, 7 days?

G: The first step was one of most simple steps but when you think about it, it’s something that we don’t really do much of and it’s oxygen, it’s breathing. We live in this economy, chronically stressed days, so many people because we had this past paced lifestyle, lots of electronics and we just don’t breathe. We’re breathing to be alive but we’re not breathing to be alive and there’s a difference. One of the things I had people do is once a day you do what I call the 3:6:5 power breath where you breathing in for 3 seconds, you hold that 6, you exhale for 5. You do that for 10 repetitions and then what’s going to happen is you’re going to start to oxygenate your body and that is one of the most powerful ways to actually change the pitch of your blood in terms of taking out the toxins because 70% of the total toxic load in your body is actually removed by your breathe, that’s number one. Number two is we get into hydration, 90% of Americans are dehydrated so we got to add more water ideally working up to 3-4 liters overtime. As we go down to the rest of the 7 steps, there’s adding greens in the form of salad and green drinks and adding minerals, doing things to detox on a daily basis. We really get into specifics of this and you can start anywhere, that’s the best thing of value. You don’t have to do all 7 steps at once. You start adding like I mentioned before what you are going to notice is that your health will start to change and again you do this at your own pace, your own lifestyle pace and that’s really what it’s about.

N: With these steps in mind, how are you going to know that your calorie intake is the right intake? Is it fat or is it sugar? How do we know that what we’re doing is correct?

G: The beauty about this program is that you don’t have to count calories. Calorie counting goes out the window. What you’re doing is you’re starting to add this alkaline foods into the body and we really get into the specifics of what we want you to do. But when you look at your plate, ideally 80% of that plate you want of have a healthy mix of dark green leafy vegetables and healthy fats and you nailed it Neal. Healthy fats is one of the biggest things I think people are not getting enough of. And the problem is, so many people are eating sugar so what are they actually burning? They’re burning sugar and what are they going to crave more of? Sugar. As you start to incorporate more this healthy fats, things like avocado, coconut oil, raw almonds and nuts and cheese and things like of things like that. Not only that they cut down on your cravings for sugar but it’s going to give your body the necessary nutrients that it needs and fat satiates your body way, way more than things like sugar, carbs.

N: Where can we get a copy of your book?

G: The best way is to go amazon.com and you can find it right there.

N: What about vegetarian diets? If you’re already a vegetarian, aren’t you getting the minerals and these leafy greens that you’re talking about?

G: Yes and no. My wife is a 100% vegetarian and I’m 99% vegetarian. In an article I wrote a few weeks back was that vegetarians are some of the sickest people on the planet. Then the book I wrote ‘vegans take no,’ the reason being just because you don’t eat meat it doesn’t mean that you’re healthy. The problem with a lot of vegetarians and I fully respect the vegetarian lifestyle, respect for animals, that’s who I am. But the problem with a lot vegetarians is that they’re consuming way too many sugars, way too many carbohydrates. And again, sugar equals acid and acid equals inflammation so if you want to be a healthy vegetarian you have to switch and start to corporate more of the healthy greens, more of the healthy fats and especially omega-3 fats in the form of omega-3 fatty acids which is fish oil because that’s one of the biggest deficiencies that I noticed the vegetarians have.

N: You know that you need to get these leafy green vegetables into your diet, You know you need to eat healthier but what if it’s in the beginning? Let’s say, a little bit more convenient to head to your supplement outlet and grab some supplements for these minerals. Is that something that can be substituted for a better diet at least in the beginning stages? Or is this something that can be maintained overtime?

G: Yes. I’m a big fan of that because when you look at the nature of our environment these days, I mean it takes spinach for example. There’s a study showing that you need to actually consume 60 servings of spinach today to get the mineral content that you got from one serving in 1948. That’s why I’m a huge, huge fan of dehydrated greens powders. One scoop of greens powder is going to give you 5 servings of organic greens. They’re loaded with minerals and that’s really the best way. When I wake up that’s the very first thing I do, later in the day I have a fresh green juice but going to a supplement is the way that you can ensure that you’re going to get these nutrients into your body. I also follow up with a good mineral supplements that has your 4 key alkaline minerals which is calcium, magnesium, potassium and sodium bicarbonate. So if you’re getting those 2 supplements in your body, that is your multivitamin. You’re getting all those micronutrients, those vital nutrients that your body needs. Anything else that you do above and beyond that, it’s just going to be a bonus. You still need to eat your greens but I absolutely recommend you go in those powdered dehydrated greens forms because it’s going to really give your body what it needs in less than 30 seconds. It’s super easy, doesn’t cost a lot of money and it’s convenient which is the most important factor.
