Prior to his role at Janssen Pharmaceuticals, Dr. Srivastava was the Dermatology Director of Clinical Innovation at Reliant Medical Group,  and an Assistant Clinical Professor of Dermatology at Yale University School of Medicine. Dr. Srivastava received his MD and PhD in Immunology from University of Pennsylvania of School of Medicine.

Segment Overview: Dr. Bhaskar Srivastava, Director of Medical Affairs in Dermatology at Janssen Pharmaceuticals discusses abstracts being presented at the American Acadamy of Dermatology (AAD) Feb 2018 on the long term efficacy of TREMFYA that resulted in clear or almost clear skin (at least a 90 percent improvement in the Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (PASI 90)) through 72 weeks. These results were not achieved with any other competitor treatments.    Also, a presentation that showed efficacy of TREMFYA demonstrated across all predefined weight quartiles and high efficacy responses were observed in psoriasis patients without regard to weight. Dr. Denise Yardley joined Sarah Cannon in 2000 as a senior investigator of the breast cancer research program. In this role, she serves as principal investigator on numerous breast cancer clinical trials. Dr. Yardley received her undergraduate degree from Columbus State University in 1983 and her medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia in 1988. She completed her residency and fellowship training at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. A diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine, Medical Oncology and Hematology, she is also a recipient of the American Cancer Society Clinical Oncology Career Development Award.

Allison Fields – With both her mother and grandmother having breast cancer, 47-year-old Allison knew she wanted to do everything she could to fight her disease. When diagnosed with an aggressive form of early breast cancer, Allison decided to participate in a clinical study that was investigating how women with HER2-positive breast cancer responded to receiving treatment after surgery. While clinical studies remain a mystery to many people, as a medical professional Allison knew that she may personally benefit and saw it as an opportunity to potentially help others. Now, four years later, she remains a passionate veterinarian and enjoys traveling with her husband. In fact, they traveled to Iceland most recently to view the Northern Lights.

It’s loosely based on a real event. The real event was a young girl went missing and as far as the public was concerned, the police had apparently not done very much in trying to apprehend the killer. Frances McDormand portrays a mother who rents three billboards to call attention to her daughter’s unsolved murder. Brian praises the acting in the film especially McDormand’s performance as the mother who wants justice for her murdered daughter. Brian states: “The lady who’s the lead actor in it is wonderful, she hardly smiles throughout the whole movie until right at the end.” The film is nominated for seven Oscars including Best Actress for Frances McDormand and Best Supporting Actor for both Woody Harrelson and Sam Rockwell. According to Brian, the film is well worth a few dollars to go and see. It’s definitely a worthy contender in the forthcoming Oscars.

The film’s plot is focused on a mute cleaning lady at a high-security government laboratory who surprisingly falls in love with a captured humanoid-amphibian creature – a creature that looks very similar to the one from the classic 1950’s monster film “Creature from the Black Lagoon”. Brian praises the movie’s outstanding cinematography and predicts that it will win the Best Cinematography Oscar. He says this is a film with some violence but has a whimsical element to it.

Churchill became faced with the hard choice to either negotiate with Hitler or fight against the odds. Brian states that this is a film that no one should miss. Gary Oldman gave a wonderful performance as Churchill who is nominated for an Oscar as best actor for this year’s Academy Awards. Brian said: “I’ll be absolutely stunned if he doesn’t win an Oscar for it.”

Guest Bio: Dr. Milburn has served as Chief Scientific Officer since 2005 and is responsible for the global metabolomics technology development, laboratory operations, informatics, and data science. Before joining Metabolon, he was Senior Vice President of Research and Corporate Development at Sirtris Pharmaceuticals, where he led the preclinical/clinical development of drugs in metabolic disease and neurodegeneration. Prior to Sirtris, Dr. Milburn was Senior Vice President of Research at Plexxikon and was responsible for the development of its proprietary high-throughput, scaffold-based chemical technology platform. He also held various research positions at Glaxo and GlaxoWellcome from 1991 to 2001. Dr. Milburn received his PhD in biophysical chemistry from the University of California, Berkeley and was a post-doctoral research fellow at Harvard Medical School.

20-year Journey of a Patient living with Polycythemia Vera (PV)

Guest Bio: When Barbara earned her PhD and began counseling families of young patients with serious illnesses, she never anticipated that she’d face her own serious diagnosis: polycythemia vera (PV). Today, Barbara draws on her own 20+-year journey with cancer to offer a uniquely compassionate perspective to both the families she counsels as executive director of the nonprofit Pediatric Oncology Support Team in West Palm Beach, Florida, as well as the MPN patients who reach out to her for support. Despite the considerable challenges over the years, including diagnoses of myelofibrosis and leukemia and a bone marrow transplant in 2013, Barbara forges on in being a much-admired advocate for the MPN community.
