• A study from Murdoch University, Neville Ellis interviewed 22 farmers from the Wheatbelt town in WA found that farmers’ mental health is being negatively impacted as weather patterns become more erratic and unpredictable.

• An inquiry into services for people with autism spectrum disorder is calling for submissions from the public, and Bendigo autism advocate Rebecca Kelly has outlined her concerns. Ms Kelly’s eight-year-old daughter was diagnosed with autism four years ago and her son, who is now six, was diagnosed a year later.

• The Garvan Institute of Medical Research warmly congratulates Professor Don Chisholm, who has been awarded a Doctor of Science (DSc) by UNSW Australia. This higher doctorate is accorded in recognition of a body of work that has made a significant contribution to a field of knowledge.

Dr. Craig Eagle, MD, Chief Medical Officer at Guardant Health discusses a new study published in “Nature Medicine” which demonstrated that using the Guardant360 liquid biopsy test can help guide treatment decisions for patients with HER2-driven metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC). The Phase 2 study – TRastuzumab combIned with pertuzUMab for patients with Her2-positive mCRC (TRIUMPH) – showed that the Guardant360 test can select patients for HER2-directed therapy, identify which patients are responding to treatment, as well as identify genetic alterations that predict resistance.​

• A study published by Orygen found young people who self-harm continue to be subject to stigma from the wider community and health professionals. The researchers called for detailed research to better understand how social media could have positive or negative impacts on young people at risk of self-harm.
