Douglas W. Scharre, MD, Director, Division of Cognitive Neurology, Professor of Clinical Neurology and Psychiatry, Department of Neurology, Ohio State University. Dr. Scharre graduated from Georgetown University School of Medicine and completed his Neurology residency in San Francisco and his Neurobehavior fellowship at UCLA. Since 1993, he has been the Director of the Division of Cognitive Neurology in the Department of Neurology at Ohio State University and heads the Memory Disorders Research Center. Dr. Scharre is a Clinical Researcher and Dementia Specialist with over 20 years of experience. He has developed the SAGE cognitive assessment tool and conducted over 100 dementia-related clinical trials funded by NIH, foundations, and industry using cognitive enhancers and behavioral therapies, functional neuroimaging with MRI and PET, and screening tools for mild cognitive impairment. He currently maintains repositories for brain tissue and cerebrospinal fluid on dementia subjects that researchers can utilize. Dr. Scharre has also published multiple journal papers, book chapters, and abstracts on the topics of cognitive neurology and dementia conditions. In fact, his book on Long-Term Management of Dementia is a stand-alone resource for health care professionals who diagnose, treat, and manage patients suffering from dementia. He was selected by his peers as one of the Best Doctors in America for the last 10 years in a row.
