CVS Health Care Insights Study – Women’s Health

Dr. Joanne Armstrong, MD, MPH, Vice President and Chief Medical Officer, Women’s Health and Genomics at CVS Health discusses the company’s commitment to support women as they face unique health challenges, in addition to often placing other’s needs before their own.

Dr. Joanne Armstrong is responsible for women’s health, genomics, and gene therapy strategy, policies, and clinical programs across CVS Health businesses. She builds on her more than 20 years in the field, health policy expertise, and as a practicing Ob-Gyn physician, to help solve for women’s health needs through clinical, policy and societal lenses. She works to ferret out known health care gaps, develop medically sound policies and programs that get at the heart of what women need and use her clinical expertise to drive the innovations and services that will transform health care in the U.S.

Prior to joining CVS Health, Dr. Armstrong worked in a variety of academic, public health and community care settings. She previously led a highly specialized medical management unit that focuses on complex care within Medical Policy and Operations at Aetna. She serves in leadership roles in several women’s health and genomics organizations focusing on quality and cost effectiveness of care. She has published extensively in the area of health care service delivery in women’s health and genetics.

Dr. Armstrong earned her B.A. at Cornell University, a Master’s in Public Health (MPH) at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and an MD at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School. She completed her residency training in obstetrics and gynecology at Brown University, Women and Infants’ Hospital and is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology. She also completed a Health and Human Services Primary Care Health Policy Fellowship.
