Dr. William Dale, director of the Center for Cancer and Aging and vice chair for academic affairs in the Department of Supportive Care Medicine at City of Hope, a cancer research and treatment organization, discusses the updated cancer and aging guideline released by the American Society of Clinical Oncology. A geriatric assessment is defined as an evaluation of an older adult’s physical and cognitive abilities, emotional health, co-existing medical conditions, medications, nutrition, and social circumstances. This assessment is suggested to help clinicians modify cancer treatment and improve patient’s quality of life.
