Guest Bio: Jason Faller, MD originates from Beaver Falls, PA. He attended the University of Pennsylvania for both his undergraduate and his medical school education. During his fellowship in rheumatology at the University of Michigan, he was granted a fellowship to study purine metabolism from American Rheumatism Association. He has been in private practice in New York City since 1982.

Guest Bio: Dr. Thomas Lee joined Press Ganey as Chief Medical Officer in 2013, bringing more than three decades of experience in health care performance improvement as a practicing physician, a leader in provider organizations, researcher and health policy expert. As CMO, Tom is responsible for developing clinical and operational strategies to help providers across the nation measure and improve the patient experience, with an overarching goal of reducing the suffering of patients as they undergo care, and improving the value of that care. In addition to his role with Press Ganey, Tom, an internist and cardiologist, continues to practice primary care at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston.

Guest Bio: Mark Borsody, MD, PhD is the Chief Medical Officer of Nervive Inc. He is a stroke neurologist and inventor of the VitalFlow stimulator with 20 years of preclinical and clinical neuroscience research experience and 6 years executive experience in stroke pharmaceutical R&D and medical affairs.

Segment overview: Nervive, Inc. has a simple and safe non-invasive medical device to emergently treat ischemic stroke – the VitalFlow stimulator. The VitalFlow increases blood flow to the brain by stimulating the facial nerve with pulsed magnetic energy; a novel magnetic stimulation coil has been developed by Nervive to specifically stimulate the facial nerve without stimulating the overlying brain. Nervive has 7 patent applications in various stages of review and its first patent has been granted. By the end of 2016, Nervive expects to have an initial version of the VitalFlow available for the intensive care unit market through a co-development partnership. Thereafter, the VitalFlow will be placed in hospital emergency departments and, as a smaller second version of the device, into ambulances.

Her extensive career portfolio includes 7 years in aged care management, over 20 years working in the Queensland Public Health System working across a variety of local, regional and state roles including clinical, management, policy advisory, and research. Sandra is a Fellow of the RCNA and her passion is “Making a Positive Difference!” for residents.

Segment overview: In today’s Health Supplier Segment, we are joined by PresCare Alexandra Gardens Facility Manager Sandra Thomson. Here she discusses the various services that they provide for Queenslanders which include residential, in-home community care and chaplaincy and pastoral care in metropolitan and regional areas. They also provide a variety of independent living options as well as a range of allied health services through their Day Therapy Centre as well as providing respite care and social connectedness programs in local communities. They have also developed a line of home-style meals and desserts under the name Contented Chef.

She is a senior executive with over 30 years’ experience gained predominantly in the government and not for profit health and aged care sectors. Her experience extends beyond general management to include a track record for developing sustainable innovative clinical programs, significant support to organisational governance and operational strategies to drive major organisational change. She is well acquainted with the complexities of the modern healthcare system with my most recent appointments including CEO in Aged Care, senior manager in NSW Health and General Manager of a large national Not for Profit. She has served as a clinician, nursing leader, mentor, manager, educator and now senior executive so have a broad understanding of the elements that support a quality health care system.

Lesley is passionate about bring elements of clinical governance that currently support the acute care sector into the residential aged care space to ensure quality aged care services are available to those that need them. She has been the National Director of Programs with the National Stroke Foundation, National Head of Programs for the Starlight Children’s Foundation and held senior roles within Victoria’s public health sector before taking up her role as CEO of the Australian Breastfeeding Association. Rebecca believes this can be achieved through the provision of support and information to mothers, accreditation of workplaces, participation in research and advocacy with government and education and training to health professionals.
