Circadian Optics is the maker of bright light therapy lamps to mimic daylight. Here to discuss this product and how she quit a job to create a smaller, better-designed lamp than what had been available, is founder Amber Leong. Circadian Optics lamps are an easy and effective way of getting exposure to bright light indoors.
“I grew up in Malaysia. We were very poor and I lived in a house without indoor plumbing. But I dreamt of coming to the US in search of adventure and a better life.
My parents cashed out their retirement account, took every dollar they had, and borrowed from family to send me to school in Minnesota.
Everything I do, I do with the reminder of my parents’ sacrifice and I’m driven by my desire to give back to them.
In my first semester in college, I was rushed to the hospital and diagnosed with toxic shock syndrome. I was given a 50/50 chance of survival.
I spent 10 days in the ICU, drifting in and of consciousness. But I survived. That experience taught me to cherish every day and constantly ask myself what can I do with this one life I have been given.
This revelation was the main driver for me starting Circadian Optics.
I want to make a difference in this world that we are in because it is for just a brief moment in time.”
