The High Rate of Addiction Among Native Americans

Robyn Knecht, Director of Counseling Services at the Saint Joseph’s Indian School in South Dakota discusses the school; why Native Americans suffer disproportionately from things like addiction, mental illness, and suicide; and how St. Joseph’s helps students overcome some of these challenges.

Robyn is a Licensed Professional Counselor with the State of South Dakota. She graduated with her Master’s Degree from South Dakota State University and has been with St. Joseph’s Indian School for 17 years. In her role, Robyn loves being able to help people and make long-term positive impacts, be it in the development of her therapeutic staff or the students she serves. Robyn has three girls and loves spending time outdoors with her family, particularly fishing.
