SCAI 2019 Scientific Session and the New Trends in Interventional Cardiology

Dr. Ehtisham Mahmud, Division Chief of Cardiovascular Medicine at UC San Diego and the incoming president of the Society of Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (SCAI), discusses cutting edge research presented at the SCAI 2019 scientific sessions, new trends in interventional cardiology, and new devices and techniques being used to increase cardiac health for all patients.

Ehtisham Mahmud, MD, is a board-certified interventional cardiologist who specializes in complex coronary procedures, including complex coronary, structural, lower extremity and carotid interventions. He serves as division chief of cardiovascular medicine, executive director of medicine at Cardiovascular Institute, and director of interventional cardiology, all at UC San Diego Health.

Dr. Mahmud leads one of the largest academic cardiovascular programs in the western United States. As a professor at UC San Diego School of Medicine, Dr. Mahmud directs the Interventional Cardiology and Cardiac Cath Lab. His research interests include robotics, investigational pharmacotherapies and devices used in cardiovascular interventions.Dr. Mahmud is widely published, with more than 100 peer-reviewed manuscripts in top-tier medical journals. He serves on multiple regional and national committees, and is an editorial board member of JACC Interventions and Circulation. He also serves on the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions’ executive committee and chairs its education committee.
