Karen Rance, DNP, CPNP, Head of North America Medical Affairs, Senior Director at ALK-Abello, a global research-driven pharmaceutical company focused on the diagnosis and treatment of allergies, discusses the landscape of allergies, allergy testing, and treatment options available, specifically allergy immunotherapy (AIT). She also talks about her professional journey from seeing patients in the clinic to Head of ALK Medical Affairs and the importance of representing women in medical science.
Karen S. Rance, DNP, CPNP is an allergy, asthma, and immunology specialty NP who received her Doctorate from the University of Virginia. She is the head of North America Medical Affairs, Senior Director at ALK Abello.
Dr. Rance has 20 years of clinical experience and is committed to improving allergy and asthma health outcomes among children and adults. She is the 2004 and 2011 recipient of the Allied Health Award for outstanding clinical project and the 2013 ARTrust mini-grant recipient, which she accepted on behalf of the Indiana Joint Asthma Coalition with the purpose of implementing a statewide asthma management plan, from the American Academy of Asthma, Allergy, and Immunology. She has over 300 lectures completed in the US on the topic of allergy, immunology, and asthma and has authored manuscripts for numerous medical journals including the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, Journal for Nurse Practitioners, Journal of Asthma and Allergy Educators, Journal of Pediatric Health Care, and Journal of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. She published her first course book, Management of Asthma in Adults and Children in 2014.
Dr. Rance served on the Board of Directors of the National Association of Certified Asthma Educators (NAECB) and represented the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners’ (NAPNAP) on the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHBLI)’s National Asthma Education Prevention Program Expert Panel (NAEPP) workgroup. She is the Founding Chair of NAPNAP’s Asthma and Allergy Special Interest Group and served on NAPNAP’s Clinical Expert Panel for Asthma.
