Thomas Silvera lost his son Elijah-Alavi on November 3, 2017, due to a food allergen causing anaphylaxis. Through his and his wife’s grief, Thomas created the Elijah-Alavi Foundation to ensure that all infants and children with severe food allergies and asthma have safe spaces to learn and socialize in daycare centers and schools. Along with his foundation, Thomas has been working tirelessly to create change in legislation – he aided in the passing “Elijah’s Law,” which was signed by Governor Andrew Cuomo on September 12th, 2019.
